Understanding Types of Film – Deadpool 2 Analysis

Film Genre: Understanding Types of Film

Before you begin this task: 

Watch Deadpool (dir. Tim Miller, 2016), as having some knowledge of the first instalment in the series would help you better understand Deadpool 2. 

Watch the sequel, Deadpool 2 (dir. David Leitch, 2018). 

Read Study Unit 2 and the relevant chapter from your textbook. (Will send to writer privately)

Read the PowerPoint slides on “Action Genre: The Superhero Film.”  (Will send to writer privately)

Read the document called “Checklist on effective statements of theme.” It is uploaded in the Canvas L-folder under “Modules.” (Will send to writer privately)

In the opening montage of Deadpool 2, Deadpool says: “Believe it or not, Deadpool 2 is a family film. True story. And every good family film starts with a vicious murder. Bambi, The Lion King, Saw 7” (07:13-07:24).

In light of the quote, examine Deadpool 2 (dir. David Leitch, 2018) and discuss how the film draws on genre elements to present the idea of family. Support your argument by analysing at least two scenes from the film. Your answer must demonstrate first-hand knowledge of the film and, where relevant, contextual evidence from external sources. You should also briefly comment on why you think this film might or might not appeal to the Singapore audience.

You should write between 800-900 words. Write down the minutes or seconds you picked the scene.

History Since 1865

Question 1 (300 words): In modern American culture we encounter history in a wide variety of ways. We see it in memes like the ones above. Many people associate it with the History Channel even though their programming seems to focus a good bit more on things like “swamp people” than on anything you might call history. And we hear it mentioned quite often in by elected officials and those seeking election to office.

In this discussion, I’d like to hear your thoughts about the place of history in American culture and society. Do you think that Americans value knowledge of the past and informed consideration of it? Why or why not?

Question 2 (300 words): For this discussion, carefully read the first of the two Voices of Freedom primary sources on page 660 of the Give Me Liberty! textbook. (This week we’re only looking at the one source.) This source presented here is text from one of Franklin Roosevelt’s Fireside Chats, radio addresses that he broadcast to the whole nation. In your response, explain how you think he defines liberty and the role that government should play in securing it for the American people. In addition, spell out how you see these ideas fitting with FDR’s New Deal programs during the Depression Era.

In your response you should use evidence from the primary sources to prove your point. Typically this requires a three-step process of making your assertions about the issue, giving the reader evidence that proves your point (usually by providing a brief quotation from the text), and then fully explaining to the reader why the evidence proves your point.

Note: Please don’t forger to do citation… Thanks you!

using the first person in your essay.

2. Along with the critiques of free market capitalism, the 1950s and 1960s

the 1960s?

intro to philosophy

The Practical Art of Virtue

Aristotle greatly differs from Plato in the role he gives to practical experience, the ‘this-worldly’ character of truth, and the plurality of considerations required for knowledge and human flourishing. His virtue ethics remains relevant today as a powerful and nuanced alternative to modern theories of ethics, and many contemporary moral philosophers work primarily within the tradition he established.

Please read the Melchert section on the Good Life (pp. 183-196) and the selections on friendship from Aristotle’s Ethics (CANVAS).

The Question

Does the wise person need friends? Why or why not, and to what degree?

In doing the reading, you’ll notice that Aristotle both praises the self-sufficiency of nous as the highest fulfillment of human potential, and he also emphasizes friendship a precondition for living the good life. Virtue for Aristotle always involves striking a balance — what do you think he intends to say about how much we need friendship? In your answer, you may consider some of the following:

  • How does Aristotle define the highest kind of friendship?
  • How does his unique definition of happiness contribute to his view?
  • What role does friendship play in the perfection of our character, and our understanding of what proper ‘self-love’ entails?

Instructions

Please address all parts of the prompt and refer to the text to support your answer. See the Outline of the Aristotle Ethics Reading page for an overview of subtopics.

You will be able to see the posts of others once you submit your own (and respond to them if you like, which is optional and not a requirement of this assignment).

Your response should be roughly 500-600 words to receive full credit, but it can be longer if you choose.

SOCW 6103 Walden U Discussion Response

Response to Shannon

Does the community have an obligation to help individuals with addiction?

I do believe society has an obligation to help individuals with addiction. White (2010), states that peer support for addiction recovery spans from the 18th century. Throughout history there has been a partnership between recovery mutual aid societies and professionally directed treatment institutions (White, 2010). Recovery mutual aid societies have been founded inside treatment institutions and there is a long history of reciprocal referral of individuals between these two institutions (White, 2010). According to Jury and Smith (2016), state that although recovery is an individual process involving multiple pathways which takes place over time, common elements include relationships and support from others, hope and optimism about the future building a positive identity, finding a meaning in life, personal responsibility and control.

Three ways community support or a group approach may

According to Capuzzi and Stauffer (2016), groups have several important functions in substance abuse treatment, including education, therapy, and support. The influence of group members who have similar experiences is helpful in breaking down the denial frequency associated with addiction (Capuzzi & Stauffer, 2016). Group therapy also offers an opportunity for positive interpersonal exchange to replace isolated self-environment (Capuzzi & Stauffer, 2016). Finally, group treatment uses peer influence and motivation to enhance individual commitment to recovery (Capuzzi & Stauffer, 2016).

Credentialed Alcohol and Substance Abuse Counselor in Florida

According to the Florida Certification Board (n.d.), a Certified Addiction Counselor (CAC) is an intermediate substance abuse credential for people who work side-by-side with clinical staff to develop and implement treatment plans, as well as provide specified substance abuse treatment services. To become a certified addiction counselor, one must accumulate 6,000 hours of supervised experience in alcohol and drug treatment; if you have an associate degree in Behavioral Sciences or higher, you only need 4,000 hours of supervised experience (Florida certification Board, n.d.). On must also accrue 250 hours of training in core areas of alcohol and drug treatment: clinical evaluation- 25 hours, treatment planning- 15 hours, referral to other alcohol and drug specialists- 5 hours, service coordination- 5 hours, alcohol and drug counseling of clients- 30 hours, client, family, and community education- 10 hours, case documentation- 10 hours, professional and ethical responsibilities- 30 hours, understanding addiction and treatment knowledge- 57 hours, application to practice and professional readiness- 57 hours, HIV/AIDS- 4 hours, and domestic violence- 2 hours (Florida certification Board, n.d.). If you have a high school diploma or a GED, you will need 300 hours of direct supervision; If you have an associate degree or higher, it is reduced to 150 hours of direct supervision (Florida Certification Board, n.d.). You will need three professional letters of reference, must sign the Florida Certification Board Code of Ethics, and pass the Florida alcohol and drug examination (Florida Certification Board, n.d.).

Response to Nataly

Response to Overcoming the struggle of addiction can be challenging for just about every one of our clients needing the help. I believe that the more help and motivational support our clients have throughout their rehabilitation journey, the easier it can be. It can be hard to pull through of not consuming a substance support they were so used to having and then just letting go. Clients may go through withdrawal, need medically-assisted detoxification, and experience intense cravings and compulsions that counselors have to help address, thus, counselors have to be trained in a verify of treatment modalities, such as behavioral interventions and cognitive therapies (Laschober, de Tormes Eby, & Sauer, 2013). Having the social support can contribute to them understanding the possibilities and beneficial reasons why it is so important to leave their addiction. As a society, we have an obligation to help individuals with addiction because at the end of the day it affects our social world and standing. Addiction can be anyone from someone in my family or a friend of a friend who may have a cousin who faces these challenges. The problem of addiction is everywhere therefore it can affect our children, schools, or work places, organizations, correctional facilities, and any other public entity, because of the availability of the substance and the aftermaths it can cause because of the population that is consuming the substance. For example, I may have a student who fails to attend school on a daily basis because the parent has an addiction problem. Because attendance is very important in the school system, then it becomes a legislative matter, where now courts are involved because student has failed to comply with state mandated attendance in a public school. Then it comes down to parent missing court and an appointed official reports to the home for a home visit, where student is found in a unsafe and dangerous environment where parent has made an obvious impression where they are under the influence of heavy substance. Then Child protective services become involved for the safety and protection of the child. As a society all parties in the social world are involved to have an obligation in helping to minimize addiction. The safety and awareness of minimizing addiction is an everyday initiative in just about every residential area. Teachers, parents, local churches, and other social setting help to advocate the cause of addiction and have enforced non-profit agencies along with free resources for families and individuals who may need the help or simply can refer it. The three ways that community support or a group approach may assist in the recovery of clients with problems with addiction are to build more resource availabilities, outreach campaigns, and public opportunity centers. Even though funding is not always available, there are several organizations that can be outreached to, to help contribute a day or some time to help establish these resources into effect. Task assistance involved educational activities, providing tangible advice, knowledge, coaching, skills, and solutions for clinicians’ practice. And support was related to workers’ emotional needs and job-related stress. Interaction referred to clinicians’ perceptions of the supervisory relationship and satisfaction (Bogo, Paterson, Tufford , & King, 2011). I believe the word of mouth is a great way to market and reach out to people that may need this kind of help. It takes time and dedication to make great things happen, but I firmly believe that the more we stress and empower the importance to minimize and help those with addiction, the more possibilities families, and individuals at young ages who are becoming part of this addiction population have an actual chance for a great future.

Grantham Week 4 Americas Public Policy Summarizing a Source Assignment

English Composition II – Week #4 Assignment 1

Summarizing

Last week, your written assignment consisted of analyzing a source. This week, you will summarize a source. These two skills are useful in different situations. Both will be necessary as you work on your researched argument paper for this course. You may even discover that you will use these skills in your personal and professional life as well.

Remember that the purpose of this summary is to present the information from the reading in condensed form; your paper should be objective.

  • Do not include personal opinion, personal judgments of the material, or personal narrative.
  • Be brief, be as accurate as you can, and try to capture the complete sense of the reading in your summary.

Step 1:

Use the Ebscohost link to search for the following article:

Friedman, T. L., & Mandelbaum, M. (2011). America really was that great (but that doesn’t mean we are now). Foreign Policy, (189), 76-78.

As you read the article, it may be helpful to take notes, or create an outline of the text.

Step 2:

Write a summary of the article. Your summary should meet the following guidelines:

  • Is between 150 and 250 words(no longer)
  • Includes direct quotations and paraphrased passages from the text which are cited in APA in-text citation style
  • Uses attributive tags that but establishes him or her as an authority in the field of study
  • Avoids personal opinion
  • Is written clearly, concisely, and accurately
  • Is written solely in third-person
  • Includes an APA style References page
  • Has been closely edited so that it contains few or no mechanical errors

Step 3:

Summary Exercise Checklist

Use these questions to evaluate your essay against the assignment requirements:

  • Does this summary meet the assignment criteria?
  • Does your summary present the main ideas in the original article?
  • Does this summary use effective transitions as it progresses from sentence to sentence?
  • Does this summary avoid personal opinion, casual language, or first or second person language?
  • Is there anything in this summary that could have been left out without losing its effect?
  • Is the summary effective? Does information need to be added or deleted to complete the assignment?
