Validity in Quantitative Research Designs

Discussion: Validity in Quantitative Research Designs

Validity in research refers to the extent researchers can be confident that the cause and effect they identify in their research are in fact causal relationships. If there is low validity in a study, it usually means that the research design is flawed and the results will be of little or no value. Four different aspects of validity should be considered when reviewing a research design: statistical conclusion validity, internal validity, construct validity, and external validity. In this Discussion, you consider the importance of each of these aspects in judging the validity of quantitative research.

To prepare:

Review the information in Chapter 10 of the course text on rigor and validity.

Read the method section of one of the following quasi-experimental studies (also located in this week’s Learning Resources). Identify at least one potential concern that could be raised about the study’s internal validity.

Consider strategies that could be used to strengthen the study’s internal validity and how this would impact the three other types of validity.

Think about the consequences of an advanced practice nurse neglecting to consider the validity of a research study when reviewing the research for potential use in developing an evidence-based practice.

Post the title of the study that you selected and your analysis of the potential concerns that could be raised about the study’s internal validity. Propose recommendations to strengthen the internal validity and assess the effect your changes could have with regard to the other three types of validity. Discuss the dangers of failing to consider the validity of a research study.

Read a selection of your colleagues’ responses.

Respond to at least two of your colleagues in one or more of the following ways:

Ask a probing question, substantiated with additional background information, and evidence. Share an insight from having read your colleagues’ postings, synthesizing the information to provide new perspectives.

Offer and support an alternative perspective using readings from the classroom or from your own review of the literature in the Walden Library.

Validate an idea with your own experience and additional sources.

Make a suggestion based on additional evidence drawn from readings or after synthesizing multiple postings.

Expand on your colleagues’ postings by providing additional insights or contrasting perspectives based on readings and evidence.

Paper "Nursing Conceptual Frameworks In Clinical Practice"

Hi, I need a paper, It should be written exactly by this instruction :

The table below provides an overview of features of the three Nursing Paradigms: Particulate-Deterministic; Interactive-Integrative; and Unitary-Transformative (Fawcett, 2005). Select nursing theories and models, referred to as “Conceptual Frameworks,” are identified. Of the conceptual frameworks listed in the table, select 1 to explore further. The Library Guide for NUR 18200 has eBooks available for you to use: click here for selected texts on nursing theorists. These texts have reference lists that are helpful as well, if you’d like to dig deeper in understanding a particular conceptual framework. Several nurse theorists even have their own websites! For the purposes of this assignment, I recommend using the following: Fawcett, J. (2005). Contemporary Nursing Knowledge: Analysis and Evaluation of Nursing Models and Theories (2nd ed.). Philadelphia: F.A. Davis Company. The conceptual framework you select is your choice. Perhaps you personally and professionally identify strongly with one of the nursing paradigms. Each is like a “lens,” offering a certain way of viewing nursing phenomena. Chances are you already view nursing (and the world, in general) according to one of the three nursing paradigms but just didn’t have a name for it…until now!

Once you’ve selected a nursing conceptual framework, conduct a literature search to identify 3 published reports of clinical practice guided by the selected conceptual framework. You will describe each of the reports in your post. Please be sure to include clinical practice reports, not research reports. Fawcett includes several chapters on each major nursing conceptual framework in her textbook. Towards the end of each chapter, note that she identifies a list of published reports of clinical practice guided by the conceptual framework as well as a list of published reports of research guided by the conceptual framework. You are free to select and use reports from the list of reports of clinical practice, but I encourage you to challenge yourself to search for at least one, more recently published report not listed by Fawcett.  You should include the following:Identify the nursing conceptual framework you chose to explore in-depth. Why did you choose it?Describe what “nursing practice” is, according to your selected conceptual framework: 1) purpose of nursing practice;  2) practice problems of interest, 3) settings for nursing practice, and 4) nursing processSelect 3 published reports of professional practice situations that were guided by your selected conceptual frameworkFor each of the 3 reports, identify the clinical situation and clinical population. Then describe how the author(s) of the report applied the conceptual framework to the clinical situation/population. Use examples to illustrate.

Instructor Feedback

Reflecting on Your Writing: Instructor Feedback

As a scholar and part of the intellectual community, you will want to understand ways to integrate feedback to be able to join a larger conversation. A significant part of scholarly writing is revising based on your colleagues’ feedback, and now that you have a substantial amount of writing; it is time to reflect on the ways you have incorporated your Instructor’s feedback.

This week’s Learning Resources will help you examine rhetorical strategies for placing yourself in the scholarly conversation, such as using the personal pronoun, “I.” For this Discussion, you will reflect on how your voice fits into the scholarly conversation—beginning with the conversation between your Instructor and yourself. This initial Discussion is part of a continual conversation during the remainder of this course as your Instructor and yourself revise, review, and reflect on your writing.

To prepare for this Discussion:

  • Review      the Learning Resources on audience and sentence structure.
  • Reflect      on your ways you have incorporated your Instructor’s feedback and your      part in the scholarly conversation. You may even choose to consider how      you approached this specific Assignment in relation to scholarly voice and      transitions.

By Tuesday 12/26/2017, in APA format with at least one reference,

Post a 1- to 2-paragraph reflection on your use of your Instructor’s feedback throughout the past few weeks of this course and your participation in the scholarly conversation. (Note: You may choose to reflect specifically on how you will apply scholarly voice concepts in this week’s Assignment.)

Rationing Issues in Healthcare

Rationing Issues in Healthcare

The concept of rationing healthcare is dealt with on a daily basis. Healthcare rationing in the United States exists in various forms. Access to private health insurance is rationed based on price and ability to pay. Those not able to afford a health insurance policy are unable to acquire one, and sometimes, insurance companies prescreen applicants for pre-existing medical conditions and either decline to cover the applicant or apply additional price and medical coverage conditions. Access to state Medicaid programs is restricted by income and asset limits through a means test and to other federal and state eligibility regulations. Health maintenance organizations (HMOs) that commonly cover the bulk of the population restrict access to treatment via financial and clinical access limits.

Using the South University Online Library, find a current article (no more than two years old) on rationing issues in healthcare. The article should also be peer-reviewed.

Note: Peer-reviewed refers to articles reviewed and approved by authors’ professional peers who are experts on the topic being discussed.

After reading your article, summarize its contents and the main theme discussed. Then, answer the following questions:

  • How is rationing defined and what criteria are offered to ration care?
  • Discuss and apply at least one of the major ethical theories to the issue and the ethical decision-making process to the issue.
  • What do you feel the impact of the issue in the article will be on the healthcare industry? What can be done to ensure rationing is done fairly?
  • Discuss the major codes of ethics of the stakeholders involved in the issue and how these codes will affect the decision-making process and the final decision.
  • Examine and discuss the impact that the issue and the final decision will have on the stakeholders involved.
  • Discuss any potential policy implications for the issue and the final decision.

Compile the summary and answers to the above questions in a 7- to 10-page Microsoft Word document.

Support your responses with examples.

Cite any sources in APA format.

An intervention program to promote health-related physical fitness in Nurses

Nursing  is a very stressful profession and has become more demanding in recent  years. (Kuo, H.-W, 2009, P. 1404) With nursing being increasingly  demanding and strenuous it is important for the nurse to take care of  themselves. Regular exercise can help maintain a healthier lifestyle.  This will always be beneficial not only to the nurse working with the  patients but for the patients as well to have a healthy example of a  current lifestyle.

In  this study 90 nurses were chosen. These nurses came from five different  hospitals. They were separated into two groups experimental and  controlled. Experimental groups are those who are being exposed to a  variable to receive an outcome. (Steadmans Medical Dictionary, 2002)   Controlled group is not being exposed to this variable. In this case  the variable is exercise on the treadmill for three months. Nurses were  exposed to treadmill exercise for three months to see what type of  results they obtained compared to those who were not active. This study  demonstrates that the development and implementation of an intervention  program can promote

health-related physical fitness of nurses. (Kuo, H.-W, 2009, P. 1404)

I  do think this is very relevant to our practice because the nurses are  benefiting in a health manner. The extent to which results are  consistent over time and an accurate representation of the total  population under study is referred to as reliability. (Golafshani,  2003)It is important as healthcare workers to live a healthy lifestyle  so that when we educate our patients they are able to see an example. It  also helps nurses be able to release stress in a healthy way and  reduces the risk of many disease. Staying active will help with patient  care when it comes to taking care of our patient at the bedside and will  help us keep our energy for longer periods of time since most of the  day we are on your feet.

MN577 Discussion Board: CDC Breastfeeding Initiative – Peer Response

No plagiarism please.

Will need minimum of 150 words for each response, APA Style, double spaced, times new roman, font 12, and and Include: (1 reference for each response within years 2015-2018) with intext citations.

Discuss the CDC breastfeeding initiative and describe how you will support this when interacting with your pregnant and postpartum women in the primary care setting.

Peer Resp#1

Our bodies are amazing at what they do, there’s no way to fully replace what the body does naturally. That is why organ donation is such a great gift and why we should use our bodies to the fullest in every aspect of life and respect the wonderful life we’ve been given. Breastfeeding is the most essential, dynamic and profitable way of providing an infant with the nutrients they need as they enter the world outside of the womb (Farhan, Das & Malik, 2018).

Not only does breastfeeding benefit the infant, but it has important consequences for the mother as well. Breastfeeding can lower the risk for certain cancers including breast and ovarian as well as decrease the risk of developing type 2 diabetes (Grummer-Strawn et al., 2013). The CDC has started many initiatives to ensure that mothers in the United states have adequate access to lactation services and understand the best way to nourish their newborn. That being said, there are still many mothers who are unable to breastfeed but there is hope for those who desire to have breastmilk for their baby. Donor breastmilk is the milk of choice when a mother’s own milk is not available. Research clearly demonstrates that human milk decreases the rates of pediatric infections such as necrotizing Enterocolitis (NEC) and sepsis (Coutsoudis et al., 2011).

Encouraging mothers to research the benefits of breastfeeding and educating as the mother and family as they are willing is the goal of the nurse practitioner. Ultimately, it is the choice of the mother to partake in breastfeeding, but proper education and encouragement should be offered for new parents.

Peer Response#2

The CDC is currently on a mission to improve the breastfeeding in the nation by current, new, and prospective mothers. Nowadays the CDC is actively promoting and engaging with new and potential mothers and well as past mothers to gather information regarding their pregnancies, determining thoughts and practices and how to move forward with the promotion of breastfeeding (CDC, 2018).  From years 2011 to 2015, the CDC has been conducting a study to determine the difference in breastfeeding by demographic variables, which provided them with information regarding cultures and areas where improvement could be made, and where their advocacy needed to be expanded and promoted.  These areas have gained additional promotion regarding health benefits for both mom and baby, as well as the advantage of a cheaper alternative to formula (Anstey et al., 2017).  A variety of issues with moms were discovered in these areas concerning breastfeeding and its practice. Some of these new moms are unsure of breastfeeding and unfamiliar with the method. Some of the moms are interested in breastfeeding but then revert to formula.

The CDC has adopted the ten breastfeeding steps that are being successfully implemented by the WHO and UNICEF organizations; and has been used for promotion throughout hospitals and a variety of healthcare settings as a tool to promote and to make breastfeeding a successful and healthy experience for mom and baby (Sriraman, 2017).  This promotion could be critical as many mothers would attempt to breastfeed their baby as well. This guide and assistance gives new moms information and a guideline to help their newborns attach.  They could also meet with a support team that assists them and has the specialized experience to encourage and teach the mom with the proper practice of breastfeeding.

As practitioner one should encourage a mother to breastfeed if possible, because of the significant benefits of it, such as the decrease chance of the baby of having an allergy to the mother’s breast milk.  However, there could be contraindications to breastfeeding that must be looked at as well.  According to the CDC (2018), a mother who is addicted or who has a disease should not breastfeed, such as a mother with HIV because the disease or drug could pass to the baby through the breast milk.
