ww treatment and bmps

This week we’ll work on two topics – Waste Water Treatment and BMPs. Last week we learned about Industrial Waste Water (IWW). This week we have to learn how to treat IWW.

Selected WW treatment principles and examples are presented in this week’s course materials. Please review:

– Waste Water treatment.pptx

voting rights

TOPIC: Should felons who have completed their sentence (Incarceration, Probation, and Parole) be allowed to vote?

  1. Pick a controversial ethical topic or moral issue.
  2. Decide what your position is on the topic and prepare to explain why. Pick one or more ethical theories to justify your beliefs about the topic.
  3. Conduct quality research on the topic and present that research. A good topic of choice will feature at least five professional sources from the ERAU Hunt Library database.
  4. REF: (5-9 mandatory, can use additional sources)
  5. Phelps, M. S. (2013). The paradox of probation: Community supervision in the age of mass incarceration. Law & Policy, 35(1-2), 51-80. doi:10.1111/lapo.12002

  10. Unbiased articles and academic studies are best. Examples are scholarly periodicals, journals, books, research forums and Internet periodicals by reputable organizations. You may also use reputable news media (Newsweek, Time, government publications, and web sites), but these do not count toward your total references requirement (five required). Do not use encycopedias, dictionaries, Wikipedia, and popular forums or Internet web sites.
  11. Create a 10-minute slide style presentation using PowerPoint with accompanying audio or refer to the Presentation Guide for other available software options. Present both sides of the issue fairly, then justify your viewpoint. End with at least three ethical discussion questions about the topic for the class to discuss. Include a slide that lists your references in APA format (see the presentation outline section). Make sure your PowerPoint features an appropriate number of slides and presents the information as clearly as possible. Avoid including slides with too many words, lack of clarity, and poor grammar. Use illustrations where appropriate. Utilize the notes section of the slide for large chunks of text or supporting information.

Your presentation must follow this outline:

  • Title Slide – This first slide must include the presentation title, your full name, and the date.
  • Body – The next slides will contain an explanation and summary of both sides of the issue. Use your research to objectively (your opinion will come later) present the facts and opinions of bother sides fairly. In your slides, cite (current APA format) the research you use, including citations. Your explanation and summaries should be in depth, thus taking up several slides (should be 3+ slides). Use the notes section of the slide if you feel the slides are becoming crowded with too much text. Relate any principles, concepts, or information from your textbook into your presentation.
  • Reference Slide – This next slide must list all sources in current APA format.
  • Opinion Slide – This next slide is your opinion. Present your own opinion about the controversy. You must explain why you believe what you do. Also, tie your opinion to one or more of the ethical approaches discussed in the textbook. State this ethical approach on the slide and explain why the approach is the right. Ex. “Utilitarian approach focuses on consequences of abortion, more infant deaths vs. reduced back-alley deaths; deontology approach, does a fetus have rights vs. rights of mother; etc. Use the text or another professional source to support your stance. Be sure to properly cite your sources accordingly.
  • Conclusion and Discussion Questions – Provide a summary of your presentation and close your presentation with three discussion questions for the class about the topic. Think about these questions. Your questions must be ethically challenging and tough. You want your questions to really make your peers think about the topic and invoke a great deal of discussion. These questions will serve as the basis for our class discussion in Module 7.

josie king case analysis

Dear All,

Please click on the Case Study Instructions and Repository Tab – and read the Case Analysis Instructions + Review the Learning from Defects Tool_Johns Hopkins before writing your paper. Note the points allotted to each question when answering. Again, I suggest drawing an outline for your paper – headings, sub-headings and then working on the content.

What happened? – flow chart (appendix 1)

Contributory Factors (Why it happened)? Group them into categories and discuss e.g. team work and communication factors, task factors, environmental factors. Which were +ve (helped prevent error) and which were –ve (contributed to errors) appendix -fish bone/cause and effect –

oKey contributory Factors – which ones kept on occurring that lead you to believe these are key… (check sheet followed by histogram/or pareto chart)

Interventions to reduce/prevent this harm – e.g. if one of the key contributory factors is team work and communication – then suggest interventions that are evidence based to improve team work and communication in health care.

How will you know your interventions are working (will work). – Think of ways in which you can evaluate the effectiveness of your intervention.

Hope this helps,

Hello Everyone,

I would say that the BAPS is very important to the FBA summary, because this tool is inclusive in what it includes and covers. The BAPS is a model that is a great way to summarize all the findings and present them in a coherent manner that makes for easy understanding of the findings and how they were concluded (Steege & Watson, 2009). This model is not an assessment but is the summary of all the information that is gathered and is put together in such a way as to make everything apparent and clear. This does not just affect a single part of the summary but covers almost everything in the summary from the definition of the behavior, identifying the antecedents, any MOs that might be present, the behavior itself, and the consequences.

The BAPS is an organizing tool that helps to bring everything together and show the steps that lead to the various conclusions that are made. This helps to support the ideas presented and shows the logical progression of conclusions. Once the information has been gathered, it must be collected and organized and presented. This model does that. Having all the data and information that are necessary is important, but if that is not presented in a way that makes shows how the conclusions are determined, it will tend to limit the effectiveness of what people will do. If things are not presented clearly and organized, people tend to not believe them and will most likely dismiss the results.

Having gone through all the hard work of gathering the data and the interviews and such would be such a loss if those who need to implement the findings do not clearly see and follow the reasoning that is being presented. If they do not understand or follow the conclusions, they are less likely to believe in the findings, and so will most likely only half-heartedly use the suggested modifications, if they use them at all.

All aspects of a Functional Behavioral Analysis summary are important. However, I feel as if the identification of the interfering behaviors is one of the components of an FBA that is absolutely necessary. From my understanding, an FBA report is a collection of data that is used to help determine the best treatment plan for the client. Identifying the interfering behaviors is important because it helps to determine what the antecedents and reinforcing consequences may be. It also helps to develop a operational definition so that all who are involved know what kind of behaviors they are looking for. In turn, this helps to develop a treatment plan that best fits the client. If the wrong behaviors are identified, they may worsen, or others could develop as well. The treatment plan may prove to be more harmful than good.

The specific section of an FBA that is impacted by identifying the interfering behaviors is the Direct Descriptive Functional Behavioral Assessment. “One of the primary advantages of direct observation of target behaviors and related conditions/events within the natural environment is that school practitioners and educational teams can use the data to construct applied interventions that are clearly indicated by the observational data.” (Steege & Watson, 2009).A Direct Descriptive FBA directly deals with observing the interfering behaviors. By observing the behavior, a general operational definition is able to be developed, as well as helping to determine which behavior-recording procedure is the most useful to implement. Once one is able to identify the problem behavior steps are taken in order to help modify or lessen the occurrence of the behaviors. I feel as if a lot of the treatment plan that is implemented falls down to the identification of the interfering behaviors that the client may be exhibiting. As stated previously, all components of an FBA are important because they build off of one another, but the correct identification of the problem behaviors is one of the most important steps.
